Today I embarked on a semi vegan diet. I have heard it is not a good idea to go 100% vegan as it can cause havoc with your digestion so I have decided to just swap a few of my meals for vegan ones in order to get a taste of what being a vegan is like. If I can lose a few pounds and be a bit more healthy than that would be wonderful too. I will admit I love my meat and my dairy but I have been fascinated by the current vegan trend and thought it would be interesting to set myself the challenge to see if I could ever actually go vegan full time. I spent roughly 50 pounds on vegetables, nuts of different varieties, wholewheat pasta, noodles and rice and dairy free yohurts, milks and cheeses. I also bought a variety of beans such as adzuki beans, butter beans and chickpeas. I bought chia seeds and flax seeds and some tofu to try. I have had quite a busy day today so I have not had chance or inclination to eat. But I just made two vegan pizzas and so I've had a piece of each. I am very very shocked to say that I really did actually enjoy them both!. I didn't think I would if I am honest. If vegan food is this nice then maybe it wont be so hard to switch after all!1 year ago
Made my potato and courgette bake but didnt fancy it, I think I need a break from the vegan cheese for a bit. Ended up making chips to have with salad in gluten free pitta. The cucumber lettuce and onions are hiding behind the chips Happy to say that vegan mayonnaise is actually not all that different from normal mayo.1 year ago
It is amazing how some of the changes I have made in the last two days have already taught me that some foods can be better than the 'normal' foods I am used to. For example I actually prefer my coffee made with almond milk, I put less sugar in my cup and I love getting to the bottom as its even nuttier. Almond milk is also nicer than milk in soups. I do not like normal pita bread, I usually have two bites and find it dry and horrible and leave the rest but this gluten free pita was nice and I ate the whole thing. My aim was to do two days vegan one day 'normal' then two days vegan etc. I will see how I feel in the morning. I kind of have this guilt now that I shouldn't eat meat unless I am totally desperate for it. I wont lie I am missing cheddar cheese a lot, I have also been thinking about chicken in batter. There are many recipes I would still like to try and make up myself. I have researched the health benefits of 'new' foods I was not aware of before but I want to avoid re-creating recipes other people have done. I prefer to make this my own journey and wont cut and paste from other sites. Tofu is a total mystery to me, never had it and never cooked it. I will have a think of something exciting to do with it. I have heard people say its bland, tasteless, has a horrible texture etc. I wonder if it could be breaded with nuts or battered. I am sure I will do something with it even if it turns out horrible lol. One thing is for certain - no more tomato sauces and no more vegan cheese! I am not that keen on radish or courgettes either and definitely no sweet potato, I made a snack out of it earlier on which I didn't even bother to post up as I just did not like it. Definitely no fan of sweet potato. Yuck.1 year ago
